Admission Rules to Graduate and Doctorate Schools
The graduate school admits applicants once a year in October-November (a course starts on December 1). Aspirants are admitted throughout the year.
The full-time graduate school is three years, the correspondent school is four years, aspirants work at dissertations for five years.
Studies are free for the following categories of trainees:
- RF citizens recommended by the RF Ministry of Foreign Affairs;
- citizens of the CIS countries, Baltic states, Central and Eastern Europe recommended by their Foreign Ministries according to the set quotas;
- RF graduates of the Diplomatic Academy who demonstrated the ability to do research (for a year period, on the recommendation of the State Certifying Board and a petition of the head of the state institution, where the applicant is working).
The full-time and correspondent graduate courses charge a fee from those who have higher professional education (preferably humanities) and who have shown the ability to do research.
Persons who have higher education (preferably humanities), have worked in their chosen field at least two years and have shown the ability to do research may be admitted as aspirants.
The documents are to be submitted to the graduate and doctorate schools by September 25.
The applicants must submit the following documents:
- personal application addressed to the rector specifying the type of the course, specialization, dissertation topic and name of the adviser endorsed by the head of the chair or of the center of the Institute for Contemporary International Studies;
- questionnaire;
- copy of a state diploma of higher professional education with the enclosure (those who received their education abroad, including CIS citizens, attach an official confirmation of the RF Ministry of Education that their document can be equated with a Russian diploma of higher education);
- list of academic publications or an essay on a topic in their chosen field;
- petition of the RF Foreign Ministry (signed by the head of a Department for the employees of the RF Foreign Ministry and ministerial institutions), a petition of diplomatic bodies of foreign countries and a letter of recommendation to be submitted to the Personnel Department of the RF Ministry of Foreign Affairs, if one applies for a budget-financed (free) course;
- record of the PhD exams and a certificate confirming that the PhD exams were passed during the graduate course in some other educational or scientific institution (p.76 "Regulations on Scientific and Pedagogical Staff Training" of the RF Ministry of Education);
- letter of recommendation from the State Certifying Board (for graduates of the Diplomatic Academy who apply for a course on preferential terms);
- PhD diploma, a list of academic publications (showing the research results of the applicant in a given subject) and an outline of the dissertation, if one applies for the doctorate course;
- photo.
An applicant must present his/her original passport, serviceman card and work record.
