Rules of Admission to the Diplomatic Academy of RF Foreign Ministry

1. Who can apply to the Academy?

Russian and foreign citizens who wish to get the first and second education in international relations and world economy. To get the second higher education they must have a diploma and at least basic knowledge of a foreign language (besides Russian and native) at the level of 4 semesters according to university Humanities curricula; CIS and foreign citizens must know Russian well enough to study at the Academy.

2. What courses are available?

International relations

Three-year day and evening course for the second education. Graduates get the qualification “Specialist in International Relations”.

World economy

The course is provided as the first and second education. For the second education it is a three-year day or evening course. Those, who complete a course successfully, are awarded the qualification “Economist in World Economy”. The curriculum of the first higher education takes 4 years and is run as a day course only. On graduation the bachelor degree in “World Economy” is awarded. Those, who have successfully mastered the additional educational program of “Cesar Ritz” Colleges (Switzerland), receive the diploma “Hotel and Tourist Management”.
The course “World Economy” is offered for the economy and management bachelors to continue studies according to the curriculum of specialist (a year day course, 1.5 year evening course) to be awarded the qualification “Economist in World Economy” on graduation. Graduate and doctorate schools at the Academy provide further education.

3. Which languages can you learn?

You can choose from over 20 foreign languages, including some rare ones, at six Language Chairs. A trainee may study two languages simultaneously in groups of 5-6.

4. Is education free or do you have to pay a tuition fee?

The courses (second higher education, day and evening courses) are free for the following categories of trainees:
- diplomats of the RF Ministry of Foreign Affairs;
- employees of federal and regional bodies of legislative, executive and judicial authorities of Russia;
- diplomats from the CIS countries, Baltic states, Central and Eastern Europe, Vietnam, North Korea, Cuba and Mongolia.

Those entitled to free education must work in international relations, world economy or government at the time of application, for at least a year.

Those who fail to obtain the pass mark at the exams may be enrolled in fee-paying courses (day or evening).

The following categories of people may be enrolled in fee-paying courses: - citizens of Russia;
- citizens of foreign states, who successfully passed entrance test in Russian.

The applicants are enrolled in the Academy after they have successfully passed the exams and paid the tuition fee.

Tuition fee for 2005-2006

For those who apply for the first higher education to get the qualification (degree) of bachelor in world economy:

Russian program (day course):

Citizens of Russia 5000 US dollars
Citizens of CIS countries 6000 US dollars
Citizens of foreign states 6500 US dollars

Russian-Swiss program (day course):

Citizens of Russia 9000 US dollars
Citizens of CIS countries 9900 US dollars

For bachelors of economy and management who wish to continue studies according to the curriculum of specialist to be awarded the qualification of economist in the field of world economy:

Citizens of Russia 3600 US dollars for day course
3500 US dollars for evening course
Citizens of CIS countries 4700 US dollars (day and evening courses)
Citizens of foreign states 6200 US dollars (day and evening courses)

For applicants who wish to receive the second higher education in “International Relations” and “World Economy”:

Citizens of Russia 4400 US dollars for day course
3500 US dollars for evening course
Citizens of CIS countries 4800 US dollars (day and evening courses)
Citizens of foreign states 6200 US dollars (day and evening courses)

5. What documents are necessary?

- Application addressed to the rector
- Application addressed to the rector;
- Questionnaire;
- Autobiography;
- A copy of the a diploma of higher professional education (foreigners attach an official confirmation of the RF Ministry of Education that their document can be equated with a Russian diploma of higher education);
- A letter of recommendation signed by the head of the organization (those, whose studies are federal budget financed submit the letter of recommendation to the Personnel Department of the RF Foreign Ministry);
- Health certificate (form 089-y);
- Five 4x6 cm photos;
- Passport;
- Serviceman card (for Russian citizens liable for call-up);
- A copy of the work record certified at the place of work (for Russian citizens).

6. What exams do you have to take and when?

First higher education:
- English (written test and oral exam);
- Geography (written exam);
- Russian Language and Literature (written exam).

Entrance exams rare held in August 1-15.

Economy and management bachelors:
- Oral exam in World Economy (held in August).

Second higher education:
- Oral exam in social and international issues;
- Oral and written exams in a foreign language, excluding native;
- Test in Russian (for foreigners).

Entrance exams are held in June 1-15 and August 8-19.

Days of Open Doors: last Saturday in March and last Saturday in April. Exact dates of Open Days at the Academy are available on the web site of the Diplomatic Academy in the “Announcements” section.

7. What else should you know?

- the Academy offers pre-entrance courses;
- the Academy provides accommodation in the hostel;
- budget-financed trainees get a scholarship;
- the Academy has a library, computer classes, gym, canteen and coffee bars; classrooms are equipped with satellite television.
